Build a new working class knowledge on the social production of health and disease
At the Alliance for People’s Health we continually strive to advance our understanding of the social, but also more deeply the structural determinants of health. Our fundamentally unjust society is the foundation for gross inequalities in health. Those who are poor and exploited are more susceptible to illness and disease, and yet lack access to the resources to deal with health problems when they arise.
We critique a culture and an industry of health care practice (some have called this the medical-industrial complex) that does not acknowledge or take account for how political, economic, social, and cultural inequalities lead to ill health.
We strive to create a new form of health knowledge rooted in the experience and the expertise of working class, exploited, and marginalized communities. We engage in participatory research and community organizing towards a better health care system and improved health for all.
