Since Febuary 6, 2010, 43 community health workers, including physicians, nurses, and midwives, have been detained by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, charged with allegedly being members of the New People’s Army, an armed force fighting for national and social liberation in the Philippines.  This is a false charge aimed at a legal organization fighting for people’s health and providing necessary services to urban poor and far-flung rural peasant communities.

The APH condemns the detention of our dear friends and allies from the Council for Health and Development, and calls for their immediate release!

This past week a Canadian delegation visited the Marong 43, click for a story from the Philippine Inquirer.

The full briefing from Karapatan human rights organization and more details from an APH organizers blog
