In 2010 the Alliance for People’s Health launched the Smile with Dignity campaign. The Canada Health Act requires that provincial health care be universal and accessible, yet in British Columbia poor and working class people are unable to access even basic dental care services.
The Smile with Dignity Campaign demands:
1. Include basic preventative and restorative dental care services in our BC Medical Services Plan
2. Access to dental care be determined by need and not ability to pay
3. Structural issues undermining equality in oral health must be addressed
